Helen Keller is amazing. Mark Twain said there were the two most interesting personalities in the 19th century, Napoleon and Helen Keller.
Her radicalism is often glossed or ignored completely today, but it was a major embarassment and problem for all the newspapers who fawned on her story of triumph over disabilities suddenly realizing she had Opinions on feminism, suffrage, socialist theory, and media relations.
We also owe her a debt for introducing the Akita dog breed to the US.
